How to Get Rid of Back Hair: The Complete Guide
Having a hairy back can cause self-confidence issues in even the most self-assured men (and women). It is something that has become more of an issue in recent years as we now have the tools to help with this problem.
Waxing is one of the best ways to get rid of back hair, although it's not very cheap and it can be quite painful (only the first time though). So, what are your options then?
At-home waxing kits have become all the rage lately, and some options will help with the initial discomfort you will have, and also with the redness that comes from waxing. After reading this guide, you'll never wonder how to get rid of back hair again!
Types Of Hair
The type of hair that you have on your back will help you choose the right type of wax to use for your back hair removal. Here, we will talk about the three main types of hair, and how to know tell if this is the hair you have on your back.
Thick, Coarse Hair
Having coarse hair is common - most people in the world have coarse hair. If you have coarse hair on your head, chances are you have coarse hair on your body; actually, it's more likely that your body hair is coarse. Coarse hair doesn't mean it's rough hair, it means that it has a bigger circumference than other hair.
Having thick hair may seem to you the same as having coarse hair, but it's not. Thick hair is about the density of your hair follicles. This means if you have thick hair, you have more hair follicles on your head (or in this case, on your back).
So, having thick, coarse hair on your back means you most likely look very bushy. This is because the hair is close together, and is thick.
Short, Coarse Hair
This seems a little self-explanatory, but we still want to explain it a bit to you. We've gone over coarse hair above (hair that has a thicker circumference than other hair). And short hair is what it says -- short.
But what is short, coarse hair? This type of hair is what you see come back after shaving. If you're a man, you will know what this looks like from shaving your face -- the stubble that comes back and is bristly. If you're a woman, it will look like the hair that comes back after shaving your legs -- short, spiky, and coarse. Both are not a great feeling when you touch them.
This hair can grow on your back naturally, instead of getting longer, it may just stay short; making it look something like a porcupine (and we know that's not the look you want to have).
Fine to Medium Hair
Now that you know what coarse hair is, and what constitutes having thick hair - here is a little information for those people who have fine or medium hair.
Use the hair on your head to test if you have fine or medium hair. If you take a single strand of hair and can't feel it between your fingers, this means you have fine hair. If you take a single strand and can feel it, that means you have medium hair. If you feel a thick, strong strand -- this means your hair is coarse.
Having fine or medium hair on your back means it probably looks a bit soft, but, it doesn't mean the color is light. You can have this type of hair, and it can still be very dark on your back. Which is why you would want to remove it.
Types Of Wax
Now that we know about the different types of hair, and you've been able to choose which you have, we can talk about the different types of waxes and which is best for what hair type. Using wax is the best way to get rid of back hair, and lasts the longest (you won't see hair regrowth for about 6-8 weeks!) because it takes the hair right from the root.
Spa Wax
Spa wax is an extra-strength wax that's used for the removal of thick, coarse hair. You apply this wax in the direction that your hair grows, but you remove it in the opposite direction to make sure you get even the shortest of hairs.
Sugar Wax
Sugar wax is used for fine to medium hair. Sugar wax is free of any harsh chemicals and leaves your skin silky smooth. This is best for fine to medium hair as this type of hair is easier to wax off and doesn't need something super powerful.
Hard Wax
Hard wax is best to use for short, coarse hair. This can be either when your hair starts to grow back, or if you naturally have this type of hair. Hard wax is a type of wax that you won't need to use any strips with because when it cools, it hardens and becomes its own strip.
It's best for short hairs because of the way it hardens around the hair, grabbing each strand strongly.
Wax Strips
Wax strips are good for anywhere on the body but usually come in different packages as there will be a different type of wax on the strip for each body part. Wax strips are extremely convenient as all you have to do is put one between your hands, rub them so that the wax heats up, then peel them apart (you get two in one!) and apply to your back. Rub the strip repeatedly before pulling off, and you will have beautiful, smooth skin.
